Patrick Bauchau: Bauchau to Appear in The Panic RoomUpdate: September 26, 2002 Sony/Columbia has released Panic Room on DVD and video. The DVD uses Columbia TriStar’s 'Superbit' high-fidelity format. Superbit technology provides greater visual detail and a choice of DTS or Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, but requires reallocation of space normally used for extra content. As a result, the DVD is limited to including widescreen presentation, digitally mastered audio and anamorphic video, theatrical trailers, filmographies and French and English audio and subtitled tracks. There are rumors that Columbia will later release a 'special collection' DVD that will include commentaries, documentaries, deleted scenes and more. Update: March 31, 2002 Sony's delayed release of Panic Room is paying off big. The film is off to a strong start at theatres, setting a box office record in its first weekend. According to preliminary figures from Exhibitor Relations, the action-suspense thriller will earn 30.2 million dollars over the three-day Easter holiday, beating the previous record of 27.8 million dollars for an Easter debut set in 1999 by The Matrix. Final figures are due out on Monday. Update: February 25, 2002 Sony has pushed back the opening date for Panic Room. The movie will now be released on March 29, 2002 in the U.S. Update: January 13, 2002 The official trailer for Panic Room is now available. Sony currently has the release date for the film as March 8, 2002 in the U.S. (See other release dates). Casting Update: February 4, 2001 (multiple sources) Patrick Bauchau will now appear opposite Jodie Foster, not Nicole Kidman, in Sony Pictures Entertainment's Panic Room. Foster has been tapped to replace Kidman in the leading role after Kidman had to back out of the picture due to a recurring knee injury. Foster announced today that she will step down as President of the jury for the Cannes Film Festival in order to take on the part of Sarah Altman; the festival coincides with scheduled filming (May) on the project. Patrick Bauchau will play Stephen Altman, the ex-husband of Foster's character, Sarah. Panic Room is being directed by David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club).
