Patrick Bauchau: Secretary

Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader star in Secretary, an independent film directed by Steven Shainberg. The movie is about a young woman who gets a secretarial job after a stay in a mental hospital and ends up in a delicate and complex love affair with her boss, Mr. Grey (Spader). The relationship is based on a deeply rooted need that threatens to annihilate them both. Patrick Bauchau plays Dr. Twardon, Lee's therapist. Lesley Ann Warren, Jeremy Davies and Ezra Buzzington also star.

The screenplay for Secretary was written by Erin Cressida Wilson (based upon a story by Mary Gaitskill - adapted by Erin Cressida Wilson and Steven Shainberg). The movie is produced by double A films. It debuted at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, winning a Special Jury Prize for Originality (Dramatic). Secretary is now available on VHS and DVD.
