Patrick Bauchau: Mount Royal

Patrick Bauchau played André Valeur in Mount Royal. This stylish primetime "soap opera" revolved around the rich Valeur family and the empire built by André, the family patriarch. The show was co-produced by partners in Canada and France, with episodes taking place in both countries. At the time (1987), the series was one of the most expensive shows ever to be produced in Canada, with an estimated budget of seventeen million dollars.

Mount Royal created quite a stir before ever airing due to the casting of Patrick, a non-Canadian, in the lead role.  Telefilm Canada initially threatened to withdraw funding from the project, but later relented. Ironically, when the show debuted, Bauchau was singled out by many reviewers as its hottest attraction. He received a Gemini Award nomination for his work.

Mount Royal also starred Domini Blythe as Katherine Valeur, Catherine Colvey as Danielle Valeur, Jonathan Crombie as Rob Valeur, Guylaine St-Onge as Stéphanie Valeur, Monique Mercure as Solange Valeur, Pierre Paquette as Roland Valeur, Marcel Sabourin as Gilbert Valeur and Émile Genest as Vincent Valeur. The series ran for seventeen episodes.
