Patrick Bauchau: Blood Ties

Blood Ties is a modern-day vampire tale in which the vampires are actually ethnic Carpathians who have emigrated to the States. Young Cody (Jason London) is your typical teenager - he thinks his parents are a bit "odd." He doesn't realize that they are also from a long line of Carpathians. Cody gets a rude awakening when his parents are murdered by vampire hunters from the SCVA (Southern Coalition Against Vampires). Injured and on the run from the mysterious killers, Cody heads to Long Beach, California, to seek shelter with his "uncle" - a powerful (and shady) businessman named Eli Chelarin (Patrick Bauchau). Meanwhile, the hunters are on his trail, and they mean to wage war against the Carpathian Americans.

This television movie (originally a TV pilot) aired on Fox in 1991. With tongue firmly in cheek, writer/producer Richard Shapiro, director Jim McBride and the cast romp their way through this stylish, soap-opera like tale filled with sexual innuendo, humor and, of course, a few bites here and there (though only one slightly "gory" scene). Slightly cheesy at times, but deliberately so, this is a fun ride on the "dark side."
